Producer / Region: Conterno Fantino — Monforte d’Alba, Piedmont, Italy.
Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo.
Vineyard: Single‑vineyard “Vigna del Gris,” part of the Ginestra cru. The vines are old (some planted 1978–2000), vineyard elevation ~300–320 m, with south / south‑east exposure. Soil: mix of sand, silt and clay.

🌿 Tasting Profile & Character

  • Nose / Aromas: Rich and multi‑layered — dark cherries and plums, ripe red fruit, dried cherry skin, with floral nuances (rose, violet), touches of spice (cinnamon, baking spice), hints of cola or medicinal cherry, subtle oak‑derived notes.

  • Palate & Structure: Full‑bodied but elegant and balanced structure. Firm yet refined tannins, good acidity, juicy dark fruit (plum, dark cherry), with mineral undertones, earthy or leather-like tones, and a complex, layered flavour. Finish is long, lingering, with spice, mineral and possibly mocha or oak‑spice after‑notes.

  • Style & Drink‑ability: Complex and structured — classic yet modern. It’s powerful and deep now but built for ageing. Most critics agree this wine will gain elegance and depth over time.

🕰 Ageing Potential & Serving Suggestions

  • Cellaring potential: Medium–long term. Recommended drinking window begins around 2026, but the wine should continue to evolve and improve for many years after.

  • Serve with: Rich red meats (roast beef, lamb, game), hearty stews or braised dishes, mature cheeses, and dishes with earthy or mushroom‑based sauces. Also great for special dinners, festive occasions — decanting before serving recommended.

  • Serving temperature: ~ 18–20 °C (typical for full‑bodied reds).

🎯 Who this wine is for

Vigna del Gris 2020 is an excellent choice if you appreciate a deep, elegant and age-worthy Barolo with a balance between power and finesse. It's ideal for collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy complex Nebbiolo wines that evolve over time — but also accessible enough to enjoy after a few years’ cellaring.
